The Mystery of the 33rd Week (August 13-19)

Welcome to the 33rd week of the year. The 33rd week is a core fifth-season week. It is the fifth week in the fifth 49 days (or fifth seven weeks) of the year (July 16 – September 3 in a clear year). The basic Bible patterns for understanding the 33rd week are the fifth day of creation narrative, the 33rd book of the Bible, the 33rd chapters of the Bible, and the 5th five chapters of the 5th book of the Bible (Deuteronomy 21-25).

Week 33 is a fifth-day-of-creation week. On the fifth day of creation, God made the sea creatures to swim by spreading their fins; and the birds of the air to fly by spreading their wings. The fins and wings are a statement that God delights in balance, righteousness, justice and equity, in the fifth season. The statue of Justice erected in courts has wide-spread hands. God reacts against evil with fire (physically and figuratively) in the fifth season. On the fifth day of creation, God furnished the waters with living creatures because He does not intend the season to be a fire-devouring season.

The fifth day was the beginning of flesh and blood in God’s creation. Life is precious in this season. That day was also the beginning of blessing in God’s creation. The creatures of the fifth day have senses to perceive their environment and are capable of making choices and decisions. The fifth season is a season of freedom to choose blessings through obedience or cursing through disobedience. In the fifth season, you must have the consequence of your choices. The fifth season is a time to choose to be up or down, wet or dry, hot or cool, blessed or cursed, free or bound, to fly or swim, multiply or decrease, to abound or be abased, to live or die, to walk in the flesh or in the spirit, to speak or be silent, to be noisy or quiet. The 33rd week is a week of consequences for choices. The best way to choose in the fifth season is to operate from the spiritual perspective of realities. The fifth season is for the full expression of life; and in this season, the Creator does not support people or things that limit or hinder the full expression of life. The fifth book and chapters of the Bible reveal this through narratives of provision, healing, deliverance, raising the dead, detection and judgment of wickedness.

Week 33 is a book-of-Micah week. Micah was a contemporary of Isaiah and prophesied in the days of Jotham, idolatrous Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah (2 Kings 15.17; 2 Chronicles 27-32). In the days of Micah, Judah was brought very low because of the sins of idolatrous king Ahaz. In his days, Judah was distressed by the Syrians, Israelites, Edomites, Philistines, and Assyrians; but distress never moved Ahaz to seek God (Second Chronicles 28). In the book of Micah, God decrees judgment against His people because of unrighteousness and injustice. In the fourth verse of the first chapter, Prophet Micah declares,“The mountains will melt under Him, and the valleys will split like wax before the fire, like waters poured down a steep place”; and in verse 7. “All her carved images shall be beaten to pieces, and all her pay as a harlot shall be burned with the fire; All her idols I will lay desolate, For she gathered it from the pay of a harlot, And they shall return to the pay of a harlot.” Micah 3:1-12 says, “And I said: “Hear now, O heads of Jacob, And you rulers of the house of Israel: Is it not for you to know justice? [2] You who hate good and love evil; Who strip the skin from My people, And the flesh from their bones; [3] Who also eat the flesh of My people, Flay their skin from them, Break their bones, And chop them in pieces Like meat for the pot, Like flesh in the caldron.” [n the 4] Then they will cry to the LORD, But He will not hear them; He will even hide His face from them at that time, Because they have been evil in their deeds. [5] Thus says the LORD concerning the prophets Who make my people stray; Who chant “Peace” While they chew with their teeth, But who prepare war against him Who puts nothing into their mouths: [6] “Therefore you shall have night without vision, And you shall have darkness without divination; The sun shall go down on the prophets, And the day shall be dark for them. [7] So the seers shall be ashamed, And the diviners abashed; Indeed they shall all cover their lips; For there is no answer from God.” [8] But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the LORD, And of justice and might, To declare to Jacob his transgression And to Israel his sin. [9] Now hear this, You heads of the house of Jacob And rulers of the house of Israel, Who abhor justice And pervert all equity, [10] Who build up Zion with bloodshed And Jerusalem with iniquity: [11] Her heads judge for a bribe, Her priests teach for pay, And her prophets divine for money. Yet they lean on the LORD, and say, “Is not the LORD among us? No harm can come upon us.” [12] Therefore because of you Zion shall be plowed like a field, Jerusalem shall become heaps of ruins, And the mountain of the temple Like the bare hills of the forest”. In the book of Micah, God also promised to take vengeance against the enemies of His people; and restore His people.

The 33rd book of the Bible shows that God reacts against awayness in His people in the 33rd season. The Creator also reacts against leaders misleading the people in the 33rd season. God blames leadership for things that go wrong in the 33rd season. The heads of the creatures of the fifth day are equipped with the senses of hearing, seeing, smelling, and tasting. If the head goes wrong, the body goes wrong too.

Week 33 is a 33rd-chapters-of-the-Bible week. The 33rd chapters of the Bible reveal the following six things about the 33rd season.

1. It is a time of great favor when you can meet face to face with the fearful and not be harmed. In Genesis 33, Jacob came face to face with his brother, Esau and there was no trouble. They embraced. He had a lot of livestock with which he sought the favor of Esau. This 33rd week, do not be afraid. The Lord is going before you to make a way where there is no way. This is a week of reconciliation and peace. This week in 2020 Israel and UAE struck a historic deal, the Abraham Accord, to establish diplomatic ties – “halting Israel’s annexation of Palestinian land”.

2. It is a season to move on to the next level and place. Exodus 33:1-3 says, “Then the LORD said to Moses, “Depart and go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘To your descendants I will give it.’ [2] And I will send My Angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanite and the Amorite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. [3] Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, lest I consume you on the way, for you are a stiff-necked people.” In Exodus 33, God commanded Moses and the people to move – after the Golden Calf failure. Moses coveted the presence of God and even spoke face to face with God in the Tabernacle of meeting – after God said His presence would not go with Israel because of their rebelliousness. In Numbers 33, Israel’s journey from Egypt to Jordan is summarized – according to starting and stopping points. Three words implying motion (move, departed, went) is used 42 times in this chapter. The word ‘camped’ is also used 42 times in Numbers 33. The death of Aaron at 123 years, on Mount Hur, is recorded in this chapter.  His son Eleazar took over from him. This week, the Lord is prompting you to move from camping. This is a no-stopping week. The Lord wants you to move and move and move.

3. It is a season of blessing, redemption, and restoration. In Deuteronomy 33, Moses blessed the children of Israel before his death. Simeon is not mentioned among the tribes here. In Job 33, Elihu corrects Job for his words against God. He emphasizes the Sovereignty of God. He also spoke of ransom, redemption, and of a mediator. You do not need any of those three unless there is trouble. They are needed in the 33rd season. In Jeremiah 33, God promised to cause the captivity of Judah to return and to restore Jerusalem. The Lord is speaking blessings over your life this week. Stand to receive your portion.

4. It is a season of judgment. Second Chronicles is about the evil reign of Manasseh. Although he repented, God decreed captivity against Judah because of the sins of Manasseh. Manasseh ruled the longest in Judah but his death is recorded in this chapter. His son and successor,  Amon, also ruled and died in this chapter. This chapter ends with the emergence of Josiah – the reformer-grandson of Manasseh. Isaiah 33 is about the judgment coming to Zion and to the Plunderer that had not been plundered. This week, the Lord will bring down the wicked in your life, family, and nation. He will raise replacements who will reverse the works of the wicked in the land.

5. It is a season to rejoice in the Lord and praise His name. Psalm 33 is a call to rejoice in the Lord and praise Him (1-3) for His powerful word (4-12) and for His sovereign and saving power (13-22). This a week of joy. The Lord will keep pain and sorrow far from you.

6. It is a watchman season. In Ezekiel 33, the prophet is a appointed a watchman because to warn the people of impending disaster. News of the fall of Jerusalem came to Ezekiel in this chapter. Ezekiel 33 is about the certainty of the judgment. This week, stand on the watch with your spiritual senses on alert.

Week 33 is a Deuteronomy 21-25 week. The fifth five chapters of the fifth book of the Bible are applicable to the fifth week in the fifth 49 days of the year. Deuteronomy 21-25 are about moral laws that Israel must keep. The five chapters deal so much with recognizing and respecting the rights of people. God reacts against unrighteousness and injustice in the 33rd season. This week, He calls the earth to recognize and respect the rights of people.

Week 33 is the beginning of the New Testament side of the fifth 49 days. Every 49-day (seven-week) season is like a journey through the Bible and has both Old Testament and New Testament sides. The first 28 days is the Old Testament side. The remaining 21 days constitute the New Testament side. The fifth week expresses the first 9 books of the New Testament (Matthew – Galatians). Those books are about Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the Church. They are also about love, grace, and salvation. The first nine books of the NT indicate that week 33 is a season of necessary Intervention and salvation. It is a season in which God must intervene to save people from the curse of breaking the Law.

The 33rd week consists of Days 29-35 of the fifth 49 days of the year (August 13-19 in a clear year; and August 12-18 in a leap year). In a sense, living in the 33rd week of the year, is like going through the 29th-35th books of the Bible (Joel-Habakkuk). Each day of the week shall express one of the fifth seven books. They are books of judgment-disasters! In this week of recompense, may the Lord keep you and your land from visitations of destructive fire! In 1933, there were two major fire disasters in the United States. The first was ‘The Tillamook Burn’; a series of forest fires that lasted about 23 days and destroyed a total area of 350,000 acres (1,400 km2) in the Northern Oregon Coast Range between August 14 and September 5. That fire began in the 33rd week of 1933. The second was ‘The Griffith Park Fire’ that occurred October 3 in Griffith Park in Los Angeles, resulting in the deaths of at least 29 civilian-firefighters trying to put out the fire. It was one of the deadliest firefighter disasters in United States history. In 1945, the 33rd President of the United States, Harry S. Truman, gave Japan fire in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki; to end the Second World War. In the 33rd seven years of the United States, terrorists gave fire to America and the rest of the world in the 9/11 bombing of the World Trade Center in 2001. 1n 1993, the 33rd year of Nigeria, there were protest fires all over Lagos because the annulled June 12 election results. Abiola came under fire; the Babangida administration came under fire; then came the Abacha-fire. This week, may the Lord lead you through the hot Joel-Habakkuk week; and give you a happy and fire-free 33rd week!

On this day in 2022, electric fire broke out in an Egyptian church and killed 41 people mostly children.

How should I pray in the 33rd Week?
